Mission Statement

Welcome my little blog, my name is Martin Hookway and this blog is a way for me to log my personal thoughts & views as I am attempting to complete personal & physical challenges each year with other like minded people.

The next Challenge's:

LONDON MARATHON (21st April 2013)
EDINBURGH MARATHON (26th May 2013)
YORKSHIRE MARATHON (20th Oct 2013)

THE ADIDAS THUNDER RUN 24 hour Race
#PROJECT100in24 (27th to 28th July)

I will be running as usual with GPS with Runkeeper & tweeting as I run on @TEAMB_O_B as long as I have phone coverage so all your support will be gratefully received.

I am currently funraising for Rainbow Trust so please dig deep if you can to help this amazing charity.

Rainbow Trust is a Children’s Charity that provides emotional and practical support to
families when their child has a life threatening or terminal illness; immediate
help is available for families 24 hours a day. Support is offered from diagnosis
through treatment and, should a family become bereaved, we continue to support
them for as long as they need us. They help family members cope with the present
and prepare them for the future.
So please dig deep & help this great charity, just think £10 is a meal at KFC so by donating £10 you will not only be helping yourself but you'll also be helping others ;o)

Cheers for taking the time to read my blog, its greatly apreciated, fingers crossed it will bring a smile to your face. My challenges never quite go to plan... ENJOY.

I'M BACK...

Forgive me Blog reader for I have sinned, it has been nearly 3 whole months since I have graced these pages... To be honest is been as long since I have done ANY form of ?Challenge or even exercise come to mention it!!!

If you are new to my blog please bear with the next bit, my blog is about my challenges & how calamity seems to follow me while I pursue them, but I just need to hijack my own blog for 2 mins (The fun stuff will come after ;o) Thank You.
You may have noticed a pretty rainbow at the right hand side of this screen, well that my excuse for not training & writing on here. Yes that right I'm blaming a rainbow & no I'm not mad... We'll I'm not "officially" certifiedd mad. The rainbow is tho logo for our kids club that we voluntary run (MARSHLAND HAPPY DAYS). Me, my lovely Wife & a couple of fantastic work colleagues provide a Breakfast & After School Club for all the school children in our community which involves providing them with breakfast, giving them a fun & safe place to play before either taking them to school or picking them up from school & giving them tea before their parents/carers collect them after finishing work. We are also coming to the end of a summer holiday where we have provided care to these children from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. 10 hrs of play each day has been fun if not slightly tiring :o) .

This is such a rewarding job & although we all do this voluntary, it gives us a feeling of accomplishment after being made redundant due to a charity providing child care pulling out of our community. (You may have read my angry post about this on Twitter)

This my friends is one of the reasons that I am back today, I NEED your help. I'm not asking for donations or sponsorship this time, all ask is for you to sign a petition.

The village I live in Moorends, has 2 Primary schools (West road & Marshland), the council are proposing to close Marshland Primary School & merge them. The 2 school would run off of 2 sites until extra buildings were squeezed onto West Roads grounds, then all the children will be moved to West Road. Oh by the way my Daughters go to West Road & they already have classes made up of mixed year groups, is this not already classed as "over crowding"?

This is a proposal by fat cats in an office that do not see the damage that over crowding would cause in our schools. Not only that, the school we run our Kids club from is the school that they wish to close, we provide a service that is for our community & even if the council offer to relocate us, we know that there is no space at West Road or anywhere in the area that can touch what Marshland Primary has to offer us.

Please look further into this proposal & make your own minds up by checking out Marshland Primary Schools Page & DMBC Proposal Page

THEN PLEASE VISIT THE PETITION PAGE

Right, sorry for the rant but it had to be done. I know the majority of you came on here to see if I was going to post a new challenge, but to be honest working 10 hour shifts looking after the kids has been a challenge in its self :o) BUT don't fear I have started doing the odd bit & although my challenge this year is a personal one that is quite boring to blog about

First I....... Washed my bike, she was a little bit sorry looking with her designer dust.

Then I bought a running top that turned out to be more of a 2nd skin!!! Needless to say it got categorised as a "base layer" & I will not be posting pics of it on here, thank you very much! I did use it to go running in though & along with the ill fitting top, my time & pace over the moors training run too showed I'd let myself go too much. 3 months ago I was knocking on the door to a 45min 10K, now I dragged myself around in 55min. Angry with myself I stupidly ran 12K on the roads the following day. I did this in a painful 1hr 2min.

So here I start (AGAIN) with my challenge to get fit again, my bike is washed *cough* Dusted, & in true TeamB.O.B style I'm going to throw myself into it head on by attempting to cycle Coast 2 Coast (Morecombe to Bridlington 170 miles) in the form of a ride I wanted to do next year as part of my training for a challenge, the ride i called "The Way of the Roses" .

I was "talked" into this by a couple of friends that have been planning it for the last few months, so thankfully although I have no clue about the plan of action I'm quietly confident that they do. We set of next Thursday then have a leisurely ride over 3 days across the country. My friends (Spud & Shanni)  are doing this for their chosen charity Yorkshire Cancer Research  (I don't believe they have an online donation page set up but if they do I'll post it asap.)

The rest of the team consists of Ian, Peter & Sue, Ill be tweeting using @TEAMB_O_B over the length of the ride, so expect some painful tweets & hopefully some stunning scenery pics full of sunshine, also expect quote from Ian (aka IAN MAN) to pop up every now & then, I wont say anything as of yet apart from he makes me lol (think of a Yorkshire version of Mr Meldrew, One Foot in the Grave, that runs & bikes) so if you are on Twitter or Facebook drop by & say Hi. I also am attempting to track our ride live via gps again, but without a support vehicle this may not last long. Watch this space, for blood sweat & PAIN!!!
